GEYSER ISLAND
South Africa
Geyser Island in South Africa is, just like for instance Dyer Island, world famous for cage diving with great white sharks. The location is reached by boat after which the crew, depending on the current, chooses a place to lower the cage into the water. Tour operators offer boat trips from Cape Town to these great white shark hunting grounds, where large colonies of fur seals live.
Particulars
Enter the water of Geyser Island through a hatch at the top of the cage. The sharks are lured with fish. When they appear, it's suddenly rush hour. The cage is launched into the water and you have to get in as soon as possible. A shark safari often takes a whole day.
Warnings
The sea can be a bit rough at Geyser Island, you might get seasick. Be prepared, as soon as the shark appears you have to go into the cage in no time. If you don't see a shark, you can usually come along for free the next day. Include this in your plannin
